Sound insulation

With an increasing noise around us caused by road traffic, aircraft noise, railway transport, and so on, quiet places are becoming rarer and more favourite. As you know the noise impact on human health, particularly affects the nervous system. To avoid (or minimize) the adverse effects of noise on our health insulated glass units with a strong sound insulation must be chosen. insulated glass units with a good sound insulation is particularly relevant where there is an increased noise level - next to a busy street, near the airport, railway, concert square and so on. The main index of the insulated glass unit describing the conduction of sound is (Rw).

The main indicators characterizing insulted glass unit sound insulation level:
1. Rw - sound insulation index. Insulted glass unit's ability to isolate pneumatic noise. The index shows what is the difference between of the sound intensity in different sides of the glass unit. Expressed by Rw (dB).
2. C - Correction of sound sources with a small amount of low-frequency tones (dB). (High-speed rail transport, road transport is a high-speed, etc.).
3. Ctr - correction of the sound sources with a large amount of low-frequency tones (dB). (a small moving speed railways, urban transport, etc.).

For example in insulated glass unit (4mm PLANILUX-12 (air) PLANILUX-4mm):
Rw = 33 dB;
C = (-1) dB;
Ctr = (-4) dB;

Then we get:
Rw + C = 33-1 = 32 dB;
Rw + Ctr = 33-4 = 29 dB;
The higher (Rw), (Rw + C) or (Rw + Ctr), the better sound insulation of insulted glass unit is.

To maximize sound insulation index (Rw) should be:
• Select insulted glass units with thick glasses. (6, 8,10 mm).
• Glass should be of asymmetric configuration (different thickness of panes).
• The distance between the glasses should be kept higher.
• Use specially laminated pane (Stadip Silence).
